Cool, comfortable weather: Daytime temperatures in Makkah in January sit around 18°C to 25°C, and evenings are cooler still. You can perform Tawaf and walk between Safa and Marwa without fighting the heat. For seniors, children, and anyone not used to hot climates, this makes the physical side of Umrah far easier. Compare that with summer, when Makkah regularly passes 40°C.

Smaller crowds: January falls outside Ramadan and well away from Hajj season. The December holiday rush has ended. That means shorter lines, easier access to the Kaaba, more space in the Haram for prayer, and a calmer, more peaceful atmosphere for worship and reflection.

Better prices: Because January is off-peak, hotels near the Haram lower their rates and airlines have more open seats. Those savings go straight into your package price. The same 5 star hotel that costs a premium in Ramadan can cost hundreds less in January.

5 Star January Umrah Packages from C$2,499

Our premium option. You stay in top hotels within easy walking distance of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah. Steps from your hotel door to the Haram. This level is ideal for seniors, families with young children, and anyone who wants to spend maximum time in worship and minimum time in transit.

January Umrah Itinerary (10 Nights)

Every package can be adjusted, but here is how a typical 10 night January journey looks:

• Day 1–2: Departure and arrival. You fly from your Canadian airport to Jeddah. Our transport meets you and takes you straight to your Makkah hotel. After rest, you perform your first Umrah, Tawaf, Sa'i, and the completion of your rituals.
• Days 3–6: Makkah. Your days are yours. Pray in the Haram, perform additional Umrah if you wish, and spend unhurried time in front of the Kaaba. January's smaller crowds mean you can often pray close to the Kaaba itself.
• Day 7: Travel to Madinah. Comfortable transport carries you from Makkah to Madinah, a journey through the desert of about four to five hours by road.
• Days 7–10: Madinah. Pray in Masjid an-Nabawi, give salam at the Rawdah, and visit the historic sites of the Prophet's city, Quba Mosque, Mount Uhud, and Masjid al-Qiblatain.
• Day 11: Return home. Transport takes you to the airport for your flight back to Canada, returning with a lighter heart and a fresh start to your year.

What to Pack for Umrah in January?

January in Saudi Arabia is mild, but it is not Canadian-cold. And packing right makes the trip smoother. Here is what our experienced travellers recommend:

• A light jacket or sweater. Madinah nights in January can drop to around 10°C. Mornings are crisp.
• Ihram garments for men (we recommend bringing two sets) and comfortable, modest clothing for women.
• Comfortable walking shoes and sandals that slip on and off easily at the mosque doors.
• A small shoulder bag for your sandals, water, and essentials inside the Haram.
• Unscented toiletries for the state of Ihram, plus regular toiletries for the rest of the trip.
• Your medications in original packaging, with a copy of your prescription.
• A power adapter. Saudi Arabia uses Type G plugs (the same as the UK), not Canadian plugs.

One more tip from us: pack light. Zamzam water and gifts have a way of filling suitcases on the way home.
